Fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) enable the manufacturing of extremely lightweight yet stiff products. However, their production processes are complex and prone to variations that can lead to significant deformations. A new article in the journal „Konstruktion“ presents a framework that enables the simulation of FRP manufacturing from single part to assembly while considering variations and their influence on product quality (e.g. form tolerances or max. stresses). It has been shown that the deformations can be simulated qualitatively correctly even with the simplifications that were made. This forms the basis for applying the simulation within the presented framework to account for the variations. For the practical application of the framework, further research aiming at reducing computation times and optimizing material parameters will be useful in the future.
