Doctorate Christoph Zirngibl

The Chair of Engineering Design warmly congratulates Mr. Christoph Zirngibl on successfully completing his doctoral examination (Dr.-Ing.) with the overall grade “very good”.

In his dissertation, entitled “Design of Mechanically Joined Structures Using the Example of Clinching Similar Materials”, Mr. Zirngibl demonstrated how mechanical joints can be virtually designed and optimized at an early stage of product development, even before the first physical prototype is built.

His work makes an important contribution to modern, digital product development: simulation- and AI-supported methods help to reduce trial-and-error loops, shorten development times and systematically improve design solutions. At the same time, the dissertation opens up perspectives for the use of AI-based prediction models and automated design strategies in joining technology.

The Chair warmly congratulates Mr. Zirngibl on this outstanding achievement and would like to thank the examination committee, consisting of Prof. Katharina Völkel, Prof. Frank Mantwill and Prof. Lutz Schröder. We wish Mr. Zirngibl all the very best for his future career, whether in academia or industry.
