Study on self-efficacy published in Research in Engineering Design

Concept of product-related user stigma
Concept of product-related user stigma

The exploratory study focusses on the design of physical products and their potential to empower users by promoting positive emotions and subjectively perceived self-efficacy. By investigating the usability and emotional appeal of one particular product – a walking aid – researchers at KTmfk and Fraunhofer IIs wanted to find out how these elements can contribute to an improved user experience. The research shows the importance of incorporating “soft factors” such as emotional design into product development in order to increase user satisfaction and self-confidence. These results have now been published in the journal “Research in Engineering Design”.
