Topology Optimization is an established method for the development of highly performant and innovative structural components. However, the computationally obtained optimization results have to be tediously redesigned in practical product development. Within the research project „TopoRestruct“, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), a new method was researched in order to get from abstract optimization results to parametric design geometry by automated geometry processing. The new, skeleton-based approach was recently published in the Journal of Computer-Aided Design and Applications with a series of descriptive 3D-demonstrators.
